Yet another Win8 peeve

I wanted to use Skype today and couldn't work out why it was not on my PC. Then it all came back...last time I looked it was not available on Microsoft's flagship new OS despite Skype being owned by...Microsoft.
So I looked again, to find there is a shiny new Windows 8 app for Skype. Hooray, I thought, and installed it at once.
Then I found that it will only work in fucking Metro. There is no way of putting a short cut on the desktop, still less of pinning it to the taskbar. If you are in the desktop (which is where I always am) you have to press the Windows key and then press the Skype tile. What a palaver.
So I downloaded the previous version which allows me to work on the desktop as God intended.
If this is the way one Microsoft division works with another, no wonder they are going down the toilet.
